With this syndrome, the patient is usually an adolescent baseball pitcher suffering of pain in either the inner (medial) or outer (lateral) part of the elbow.

The repetitive stress on the elbow joint when pitching causes a stretch injury to the medial aspect of the elbow and a compression to the lateral aspect. Tenderness may be noted when palpating the area. X-rays should be taken to determine if there is any ligament tears or epiphyseal damage.

If there is visualized damage on the radiographs, consultation with an orthopaedic specialist is warranted. Otherwise, conservative treatment with Active Release Techniques and modification of activities should take precedence. Modifications include decreased time pitching, avoid throwing curve balls and teaching proper mechanics.
